Love what you do: The smartest Career Move you can make
Years ago, fresh out of university and still finishing my thesis, I found myself stepping into a job I hadn’t planned for—working at Starbucks. At the time, it wasn’t the logical next step. I didn’t map it out on some grand career plan. But something in me lit up when I said yes. And that changed everything.
I loved Starbucks and when they finally came to my home town and I wanted to start as a part-timer, just looking for something to support myself while I wrapped up my studies. But before I knew it, I was full-time, thriving, and staying for ten years. I moved up quickly, built a reputation in my Starbucks community, and every single day, I thought:
“My God, I can’t believe I get to do this.”
The slogan at Starbucks back then? Love what you do. And they were onto something.
Following the Love—Before I Knew It Was the Smartest Thing to Do
Looking back, I realize I was unknowingly following my Human Design strategy and authority. I didn’t overanalyze it. I didn’t have a five-year plan. I simply felt something pulling me forward, and I followed the feeling. I said yes because it felt right in my body, not because it made sense on paper.
And that’s exactly what Human Design teaches us—that the best decisions, the decisions that are ‘right’ for us, aren’t made in the mind but in the body. For all the the big decisions I made in my adult life (moves, job changes etc.) I followed the simple rule:
If it feels exiting + I’m a little bit scared of it= YES.
This rule has served me amazingly well. Only years later I realised that the ‘excitement’ is my sacral authority giving me the green light. Love is a powerful indicator that you’re on the right path. When something excites you, your energy expands. When something drains you, your energy contracts. I didn’t know this back then, but I followed my gut, and it led me to success—effortlessly.
What Happens When You Don’t Love What You Do?
Here’s where the real problem lies: Many people wake up every day feeling meh about their work. And that’s not just a mindset problem—it’s an energy problem. Your body always knows before your mind does. If you feel drained, uninspired, or stuck in your career, that’s your energy trying to tell you something. The question is—are you listening?
When you’re in a job that doesn’t light you up:
• Your energy stays low. No amount of coffee can compensate for an uninspired soul.
• You get stuck in survival mode. Instead of expanding into possibility, you contract into just “getting through the day.”
• Opportunities stop flowing. When your energy is stagnant, life doesn’t send you exciting doors to walk through.
What If You Don’t Love What You Do?
If you don’t feel that deep sense of excitement about your work, let’s talk about it.
• Are you in the wrong place? Meaning, is it time to shift, pivot, or walk away?
• Or is it a perspective shift? Could a new way of thinking re-ignite your love for what you do?
Either way, doing work you don’t love has an energetic cost. And it’s too high to ignore.
Many people stay stuck because they don’t know what’s wrong—they just know something feels off. That’s where coaching comes in. Coaching isn’t about pushing you to make drastic changes overnight. It’s about helping you understand your energy, recognize the patterns keeping you in place, and realign with what truly lights you up. Most people don’t make these shifts alone—because we all have blind spots, default patterns, and conditioning that make it hard to see what’s possible. That’s why help is necessary. When you have someone guiding you toward your own clarity, you move faster, with more ease, and towards the life and work you actually want.
Loving what you do isn’t just a feel-good slogan—it’s an energetic strategy for success. When you follow what excites and energizes you, doors open effortlessly. My own journey started with an unexpected “yes” to my first corporate job, which led to a decade of growth, fulfillment, and success—without a rigid plan, but by following what felt right.
If you’re stuck in a job that drains you, the cost isn’t just dissatisfaction—it’s your energy, creativity, and well-being. Coaching helps you reconnect with what truly lights you up, clear the blocks holding you back, and align your work with your inner yes. Because the truth is: you’re not meant to settle—you’re meant to thrive.
Because “Love What You Do” isn’t just a corporate slogan. It’s the smartest decision you’ll ever make.
